Over 7 days, you’ll traverse the mountain’s western slopes and join the Machame Route near the Lava Tower, ensuring both serenity and scenic variety before reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895m), Africa’s highest point.

Safari Itinerary & Experience Overview

Day 1: Moshi Londorossi Gate (2,250m) Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,780m)

Your journey begins in Moshi, where you’ll meet your guide for a briefing and equipment check. A scenic drive through local villages brings you to Londorossi Gate for registration. From there, the trail leads through dense montane rainforest, alive with bird calls and monkeys swinging through the trees. You’ll arrive at Mti Mkubwa Camp (Big Tree Camp) for your first night on the mountain.

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa (2,780m) Shira 1 Camp (3,500m)

Today’s trek begins with a steady climb out of the forest and into the heather and moorland zone. The path opens up to sweeping views across the Shira Ridge, one of Kilimanjaro’s ancient volcanic formations. You’ll camp at Shira 1 Camp, located on a beautiful plateau.

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp (3,500m) Shira 2 Camp (3,850m)

A shorter day allows for acclimatization and time to explore the Shira Plateau, a wide expanse of grassy moorland dotted with giant lobelias and senecios. The trail gradually ascends to Shira 2 Camp, offering stunning views of Kibo Peak and Mount Meru in the distance.

Day 4: Shira 2 Camp (3,850m) Lava Tower (4,600m) Barranco Camp (3,960m)

This is a crucial acclimatization day. You’ll hike up to Lava Tower, a towering volcanic formation, and then descend to Barranco Camp. The “climb high, sleep low” approach helps your body adjust to the altitude. As you descend, you’ll be treated to panoramic views of the Western Breach and the Barranco Valley.

Day 5: Barranco Camp (3,960m) Karanga Camp (4,035m)

After breakfast, you’ll conquer the Barranco Wall, a thrilling climb that rewards you with unforgettable views. The route continues through alpine desert terrain, crossing several ridges before reaching Karanga Camp, perfectly positioned for rest and acclimatization before the final ascent.

The trail continues upward to Barafu Camp, your last stop before the summit. The air thins and temperatures drop, but excitement builds. You’ll have an early dinner and a briefing before resting in preparation for your midnight summit push. From camp, enjoy views of Mawenzi Peak glowing in the setting sun.

Day 7: Barafu Camp (4,640m) Uhuru Peak (5,895m) Mweka Camp (3,100m)

The ultimate day begins around midnight with a challenging climb to Stella Point (5,739m). After a short rest, continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Soak in the sunrise over the glaciers — an unforgettable reward for your effort. You’ll then descend to Mweka Camp, where you’ll celebrate your achievement with your team.

After breakfast, descend through the lush rainforest to Mweka Gate. You’ll receive your summit certificate before being transferred back to your hotel in Moshi for a relaxing shower and celebration.
